Trim the Hesitancy Project
The “Trim the Hesitancy Project” is a program that gives Black Barbershops and Beauty Salons access to Covid-19 vaccine resources and vaccination clinics. The resources will educate them and their clientele about the benefits and safeguards of the COVID-19 vaccinations. The intention is save lives by having more people in the Black Community vaccinated against COVID-19.

How the initiative Began and where it plans to go.
The project began when the Riverside County Black Chamber of Commerce (RCBCC) and Riverside University Healthcare System-Public Health realized that the Black Community were not receiving the Covid-19 vaccinations. They decided to join forces to educate their community about the benefits of getting vaccinated. Similar programs are doing well in other regions of the United States.
The Riverside County Black Chamber of Commerce (RCBCC) has also partnered with additional community health organizations to reduce the health disparities within the Black Community. With that said, the project will expand to offering additional health screenings and information. This will include diabetes, colon cancer, and other illnesses that heavily affect the black community.
Education and early detection is the key to beating the illnesses that plaque our community. We as a people are not adequately educated on illnesses that affect us or in most cases we don’t have access to proper healthcare. This project will help change that narrative.
Why the Shop?
We all have a story or know someone with a story of the first time going to the shop. Be it the place you learned how to tie a tie or how to ask that girl in your class out. Maybe it was the place where you learned the importance of holding your ear when you saw the “hot comb” approaching. Be it the barbershop or Beauty Salon, there is a sense of community and well-being. That is what this project is about.
Taking an established community and inserting the importance of getting the COVID-19 Vaccine. There is hesitancy towards the vaccine in the Black community and this effort is going to trim that away. Let’s keep our communities informed so that we can continue the lives touched by the Beauty Salon and Barbershop.
